You know why I like this picture? You can't see the HEMIWagon in it.
That means it's inside the shop now.

Man I'm really really sorry to hear that. I don't know if I ever mentioned it but I went through something similar with my maggy over the summer after a day of autocross. I love these 1st gen LXs, but I'm starting to question the durability of the 5.7 and the 6.1. Please keep us posted.

Yeah, I told the shop I need the car soon. I also want to know what broke, thats really the big question...
what happened to yours?

Lifter failed and destroyed my cam. I originally thought it was just a busted spring. There is a guy in town that parts out SRTs. He had a 6.1 maggy, and the exact same thing happened to him. I didn't even know lifters could fail like that. Truth be told I knew something is was wrong before the tapping started. I had a random misfire on cylinder 4 that would come and go. No one could really figure out why it was happening. The lifter must have stopped rolling on the cam and eventually just shattered.

The picture isn't loading for me, but going back to my original post about the problem, the biggest symptom was the tapping that happened on the highway after a small acceleration. Nothing the car hadn't been able to do in the past. In fact, after changing the spark plugs, oil and putting on a cold air intake, once I reset the computer, the car started running a whole lot better. It had a bit of a roughness to the idle, but it wasn't consistent.
The biggest thing with my car was the electrodes closed on the spark plugs. The engine turns over, and the only noise was from cylinder 1. I never had any random misfires or any random codes come from the car since I've owned it. The only fluid that wasn't changed was the brake fluid, it has a new water pump and coolant. The tapping I hear is pretty rhythmic, so I suspect that maybe a lifter is broken, and putting in a new cam (stock), and all new lifters may be the end result for this. I don't have the money to replace the motor, so I don't have many options.
At the moment, it's suspected that the head has to come off the drivers side, there will be minor head work to get within spec and fix any potential valve issues, then sort out the lifters. The car would initially start, but immediately stall after running for 2-3 seconds.
By chance, you wouldn't know if this guy has a complete 6.1 motor, do you? Worst case scenario, I would certainly be interested in knowing what it would cost to have a complete 6.1L motor from him, provided it runs. If it needs a rebuild, that's fine, but a complete motor is in the back of my mind, and the 6.1L is about as big as I'm thinking of going. I'd probably rebuild it, but having something complete to start with is what interests me. Would you by chance either have a website I could look at, or be able to find out? I'd certainly be very grateful. I'm in Northern NJ.
Above all else, thanks for the really good info so far. Easily the best info I've gotten from anyone so far.

I'll try this again. Its a picture of the flattened roller. I think 6.1s are pretty expensive. 4 to 6 Gs. I'd be happy to email you his contact info. His name is Kelsey. He is a pretty good dude. He puts up with my question even though I have never bought anything from him. What email can I reach you at?
